New screens create new opportunities for riverside bar

Customers to Botanic used to avoid its outdoor seating area in the winter months.
Despite its location on The Terrace, overlooking the Avon river, Botanic’s outdoor space was just too cold for customers. So too, was its outdoor private function area. Recently that all changed with the installation of three Calido zip screens by Johnson & Couzins.
“It’s opened us up to more options,” says Botanic owner Daniel Taiaroa.
“This space during winter last year was too cold. The heaters couldn’t warm the space with the conditions coming in.”
Botanic’s terrace is a “prime space”, given its direct views of the Avon river, tram and Bridge of Remembrance, so naturally the team wanted to be able to use it year round.
Daniel says installing the screens has been good for business.
The front terrace can now be fully enclosed with the weather-proof Calido zip screens, which retain their seamless appearance from both inside and out, meaning Botanic can now cater for up to 100 people – even in winter.
“People aren’t afraid to use this space. Last winter those doors separating the building from the terrace stayed closed. People would poke their head out and instantly retreat.”
“Since we’ve got the screens in, the doors haven’t closed really. These are just the best seats in the house now, where people can sit year round.”
