Keeping it local
24 November 2020
At J&C we are pretty staunch on keeping things local. We are proudly NZ designed and made and support local suppliers whereever we can. That’s just part of the reason why we love our latest project at b.social in Wanaka (well, the craft beers and great kai help too!)
b.social is the next step in the brewing vision of local lad James Hay. James launched b.effect brewing in Wanaka in 2015, taking the best local ingredients to make sessionable craft beer perfectly suited year round to the mountains and lake.
“Seeing b.effect beer come to life was great, but I wanted to complete the experience with a brewery so our customers could really engage with our process,” says James.
So he teamed up with locals Matt and Anna Lamming (known for the legendary Urban Grind eatery in Wanaka and the newly renovated Hawea Hotel) and b.social was born.
“We took an old mechanics workshop to create the b.social space, which was perfect, but it didn’t exactly come with a grand outdoor area. Wanaka locals are known for enjoying the outdoors but with the sun, wind and winter temperatures to contend with sometimes our outdoor space wasn’t an enjoyable place to be. We needed a solution that dealt with all that nature could throw at us,” says James.
It was recommendations from local builders and electricians that put James onto Johnson & Couzins.
“From everything I heard Johnson & Couzins had the best reputation around for not only their products but their delivery and service,” says James.
J&C have now installed a SkyLouvre Silencio and four Calido Zip Screens at b.social and James couldn’t be happier with the result.
“The Johnson & Couzins’ SkyLouvres and screens have given us essentially an indoor space, outside. It’s increased our seating capacity by around 50% and is providing protection from the sun, rain and wind. It’s the complete package,” says James.
So if you’re in Wanaka pop in and say hi to the b.social team, try a drop of their local b.effect beer and enjoy the new outdoor space at 60 Anderson Road.
Can’t get there? No worries. b.effect can ship straight to your door!
